On May 13, 2025, a pivotal meeting took place at the headquarters of Airports Corporation of Vietnam (ACV) between ACV and IC ICTAS, the lead contractor of Package 5.10 – Passenger Terminal. The meeting focused on enhancing coordination and identifying optimal solutions to expedite the progress of Phase 1 of the Long Thanh International Airport Project. The goal is to substantially complete construction by the end of 2025 and commence commercial operations in the first half of 2026, as directed by the Prime Minister.

Overview of the meeting

The meeting was led by Mr. Vu The Phiet, Chairman of ACV, and Mr. Fırat Çeçen, Chairman and CEO of IC ICTAS. Also in attendance were Mr. Nguyen Tien Viet, Deputy General Director of ACV and Director of the Long Thanh Project Management Unit (PMU), along with senior leaders from both organizations. This gathering followed a series of collaborative efforts, including an earlier meeting on February 14, 2025, between ACV’s Chairman and Mr. Reha Denemec, Vice President of IC ICTAS, to discuss strategies for expediting project implementation. In March 2025, ACV and IC ICTAS conducted multiple site visits and consultations with aviation equipment suppliers in Hong Kong, Singapore, and Malaysia. These efforts successfully streamlined production, delivery, and installation timelines for critical passenger terminal systems, including the Baggage Handling System (BHS), Hold Baggage Screening (HBS), Passenger Boarding Bridges (PBB), and Visual Docking Guidance System (VDGS).

These measures have reduced implementation times by 5 to 10 months, ensuring equipment delivery by Q3 and Q4 of 2025—an impressive milestone reflecting the professionalism and dedication of ACV, IC ICTAS, and their partners.

During the May 13 meeting, both ACV and IC ICTAS reaffirmed their commitment to completing the project on schedule. ACV emphasized the importance of IC ICTAS's role in fostering closer coordination with subcontractors and equipment suppliers, particularly in high-tech areas like baggage handling and security screening systems. ACV pledged to mobilize experienced experts and engineers to support equipment installation, testing, and commissioning. Simultaneously, ACV requested IC ICTAS to strengthen its workforce, especially by deploying additional consultants and operational specialists to ensure quality and timely delivery.

Completing the project ahead of schedule promises numerous benefits, including cost savings, optimized resource utilization, and accelerated investment returns. This is evident from the early operation of Terminal 3 at Tan Son Nhat International Airport, which, after opening two months ahead of schedule, served nearly 250,000 passengers within its first month, achieving daily throughput of over 10,000 passengers.

ACV’s Chairman Vu The Phiet provided updates on other significant project milestones. Runway 1 has been completed three months ahead of schedule, and preparations for the commencement of Runway 2 construction are on track for late May 2025. The passenger terminal, regarded as the "heart" of Long Thanh International Airport, remains a top priority, with a steadfast commitment to meeting the planned completion timeline.

ACV’s Chairman, Mr. Vu The Phiet shared his insights

Chairman of IC ICTAS, Mr. Fırat Çeçen reaffirmed the company's commitment to closely collaborating with ACV and subcontractors to address challenges promptly, maintain construction progress, and adhere to the highest technical standards. Both parties agreed to establish a more frequent communication mechanism among senior leaders to expedite decision-making and problem resolution.
