On May 14, 2026, the People’s Committee of Can Tho, chaired by Mr. Truong Canh Tuyen – Deputy Secretary of the City Party Committee and Chairman of the Municipal People’s Committee, convened a working session with a delegation from Airports Corporation of Vietnam led by Mr. Nguyen Cao Cuong – Deputy General Director.
The discussion centered on strategic cooperation measures to sustain and expand the air route network at Can Tho International Airport, while enhancing synergies between the aviation and tourism industries. The initiative is expected to contribute significantly to unlocking the economic and tourism potential of the Mekong Delta region.


Overview of the working session
Also attending the meeting were representatives from various departments and authorities of Can Tho, including the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, the Department of Construction, the Department of Industry and Trade, and the Investment, Trade and Tourism Promotion Center. On behalf of Airports Corporation of Vietnam (ACV), representatives from relevant functional departments and Can Tho International Airport be also in attendance.
During the meeting, Airports Corporation of Vietnam presented a comprehensive report on the current operational performance of Can Tho International Airport, along with its strategic development orientation for the coming period. ACV also proposed a number of promotional initiatives aimed at attracting airlines to launch new routes and sustain both domestic and international flight routes to and from Can Tho.
Speaking at the session, Mr. Nguyen Cao Cuong, Deputy General Director of ACV expressed his appreciation for the continued attention, support, and close cooperation of the city’s leadership in facilitating aviation operations over recent years. He also reaffirmed the shared commitment of both parties to strengthening collaboration in the promotion of tourism and aviation development. ACV further emphasized its commitment to continuing preferential policies, market stimulation programs, and joint promotional activities to encourage greater airline participation and route expansion at Can Tho International Airport.

In addition to aviation-related discussions, representatives of the Investment, Trade and Tourism Promotion Center of Can Tho provided updates on the city’s tourism development landscape and strategic orientation for the sector. The presentation highlighted efforts to develop distinctive tourism products closely associated with the cultural identity of the Mekong Delta, including river-based tourism, eco-tourism, local cuisine, and authentic community experiences, with the aim of attracting both domestic and international visitors.
In alignment with this direction, representatives from the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Can Tho also contributed a number of important recommendations regarding integrated destination marketing and the development of synchronized tour and travel packages linked directly to air routes. These initiatives are expected to create stronger cross-sector stimulation between tourism, trade, and service industries.
Concluding the meeting, Mr. Truong Canh Tuyen, Chairman of the People’s Committee of Can Tho, highly appreciated the continued attention and commitment of ACV toward the development of Can Tho International Airport. He reaffirmed the city’s commitment to maintaining close coordination with ACV and relevant stakeholders in promoting investment, enhancing tourism promotion activities, improving the quality of local tourism products, and creating favorable conditions for the expansion of air services to and from Can Tho in the coming period.

Can Tho International Airport holds a strategic position as a key aviation gateway for the Mekong Delta region, serving as an important link between southwestern Vietnam and major economic and tourism centers both domestically and internationally. With its synchronized infrastructure system, an annual handling capacity of up to three million passengers, and the capability to accommodate wide-body aircraft such as the Airbus A350 and Boeing 787, the airport is expected to emerge as a vital aviation hub for the region.
The continued development of Can Tho International Airport is anticipated to strengthen regional connectivity and create new momentum for the growth of tourism, trade, and socio-economic development across the Mekong Delta in the years ahead.
