As the 2026 summer peak season gets underway, Cat Bi International Airport has recorded a significant increase in both passenger traffic and aircraft movements. To meet rising travel demand, the airport has been implementing a comprehensive range of measures, from process optimization to the application of modern technologies, ensuring safe, smooth and efficient operations throughout the peak period.
According to estimated traffic figures for the three summer months of June, July and August 2026, Cat Bi International Airport is expected to serve more than 1 million passengers, representing growth of nearly 145% compared with the same period in 2025. Aircraft movements are estimated to reach 5,358 flights, an increase of more than 134%. Baggage and cargo volumes are also expected to rise, reaching more than 5.5 tons and 2.7 tons respectively. These figures show strong growth in air travel this summer, while also requiring the airport to improve its services, coordination and passenger support.

To shorten waiting times and improve passenger flow, Cat Bi International Airport has accelerated the application of digital technologies in the check-in process. The self-service kiosk check-in area has been expanded and arranged in a more visible and convenient manner, attracting a growing number of passengers, particularly families and younger travelers who prefer greater flexibility and control over their journey.

As part of this years’ service enhancement efforts, the airport has also introduced biometric authentication procedures, allowing passengers to register facial recognition information directly at self-service kiosks with the guidance of ground staff. When integrated with the automated gate system, this technology helps streamline security screening and document verification, making the process faster and more seamless. Instead of relying solely on manual checks, passengers can move through control areas more efficiently, creating a modern, convenient and increasingly contactless airport experience.
Alongside technology-driven solutions, airport management has also paid close attention to operational coordination and direct resource allocation. All terminal equipment, airside facilities, aircraft parking areas and ground service vehicles have been reviewed and maintained regularly to ensure stable operations. In busy areas such as security checkpoints, baggage claim belts, and internal traffic zones, more staff have been assigned to guide passengers, manage crowds, and provide timely assistance.
Passenger service activities on the apron have also been closely coordinated to ensure smooth handling and operational safety. These efforts not only enhance the airport’s service capacity, but also contribute to providing passengers with safe, convenient and professional journeys throughout the 2026 summer peak season.
