On January 16, 2026, Airports Corporation of Vietnam (ACV) organized the groundbreaking ceremony for the construction of the new Cargo Terminal Project at Danang International Airport. This is a key infrastructure project aimed at resolving the state of overloading and modernizing cargo transport capacity, contributing to the promotion of socio-economic development for Da Nang City and the Central Highlands region. With ACV serving as the solely investor, the project has a total investment capital of 631 billion VND, utilizing 100% of the Corporation's development capital. The facility is being built on an area of over 2.4 hectares, consisting of a main terminal with three floors and one mezzanine, designed for a capacity of 100,000 tons of cargo per year. The project is expected to be deployed for construction over 12 months with a synchronous infrastructure system, including auxiliary works and a modern environmental treatment system that meets international aviation standards. Beyond being a Grade II traffic work, the new Cargo Terminal is identified as a crucial link in realizing the goal of making Da Nang a logistics center connecting the Central Key Economic Region and the East-West Economic Corridor.

The attending delegates pressed the ceremonial button to officially commence the construction of the New Cargo Terminal Project at Danang International Airport.
Speaking at the ceremony, Mr. Phan Kieu Hung, Director of Danang International Airport, stated that in recent years, the airport has continuously developed, gradually affirming its role as a key international airport for the Central region and the entire country. Passenger and cargo volume have continuously grown, clearly reflecting the increasingly high demand for air transport and logistics activities.

Mr. Phan Kieu Hung, Director of Danang International Airport, speaking at the ceremony.
Specifically, in 2025, cargo output through the airport reached 41,561 tons (an increase of 21% compared to 2024), exceeding the design capacity of the existing cargo terminal by more than 2.5 times. This reality posed an urgent requirement to invest in expanding and upgrading infrastructure to meet development requirements in the new period, while simultaneously creating room for sustainable growth in the future. With a design capacity of 100,000 tons per year (expected to be reached by 2030), the new terminal will play an important role in enhancing air logistics capacity and effectively supporting import-export activities when it goes into operation. This contributes to improving the competitiveness of Vietnamese goods while creating momentum to attract investment and promote the socio-economic development of Da Nang City and the Central Highland region.
At the groundbreaking ceremony, ACV Deputy General Director Nguyen Duc Hung emphasized that the new Cargo Terminal is an important component in the overall infrastructure upgrade plan for Danang International Airport, which includes the expansion of Passenger Terminal T1, upgrades to airside infrastructure, and the development of the northern airport area. This demonstrates ACV's long-term vision in building Danang International Airport into a modern, regional-class center for cargo transit, tourism, and aviation services.

Mr. Nguyen Duc Hung, Deputy General Director of ACV, giving an interview at the ceremony.
Also speaking at the ceremony, Mr. Pham Duc An, Chairman of the Da Nang People's Committee, affirmed that Danang International Airport is one of the important trades and logistic gateways of the Central region, playing a key role in connecting aviation, tourism, and logistics, and promoting international integration for the city as well as the entire region.

Mr. Pham Duc An, Chairman of the Da Nang People's Committee, speaking at the ceremony
Mr. Pham Duc An assessed the deployment of the Cargo Terminal construction project as a correct, timely, and strategic decision, suitable for the city's long-term development orientation. When completed and put into operation, the project will contribute to enhancing the competitiveness of Danang International Airport and increasing cargo transport capacity to meet the increasingly high demands of businesses and customers. Thereby, it will promote import-export activities and attract investment, creating momentum for the development of the Free Trade Zone and key economic sectors, helping Da Nang participate deeper in regional and global supply chains and logistics.
