In December 2025, Airports Corporation of Vietnam (ACV) organized four training courses on the control of birds, wildlife, and domestic animals for its 21 subsidiary airports. These sessions were held at Noi Bai, Da Nang, Tan Son Nhat, and Can Tho International Airports. This activity underscores ACV's commitment to specialized training as a means to elevate aviation operational safety standards.

The courses featured MSc. Nguyen Hoai Bao, a renowned bird researcher in Vietnam. He is closely associated with research and conservation efforts at the University of Science, Vietnam National University - Ho Chi Minh City, and is well-known for his dedicated work in protecting the Sarus Crane in Vietnam.

Theory Meets Practice

The training programs were designed to blend specialized theory with hands-on practice, focusing on:

  • Identifying hazards posed by birds and wildlife.
  • Assessing the risk of aircraft collisions (bird strikes).
  • Implementing management, dispersal, and control measures tailored to the specific operational conditions of each airport.

The training content strictly followed ICAO (International Civil Aviation Organization) recommendations, Vietnamese legal regulations, and ACV’s own safety and quality management systems.

Knowledge and Coordination

Through these sessions, participants were updated on the biological characteristics and behavioral patterns of bird and wildlife species commonly found in airfield areas. Key skills covered included:

  • Observation methods and data recording.
  • Reporting procedures for incidents involving wildlife.
  • Improving coordination between different airport units when handling real-world situations.

The program also facilitated discussions and the exchange of experiences between different airports, helping to spread effective practices and maintain consistency across the entire ACV system.

A Foundation for Sustainable Safety

The organization of these courses reflects ACV's proactive approach to human resource development in aviation safety. The corporation views training as a fundamental solution for risk prevention, incident mitigation, and the enhancement of sustainable operational efficiency.

Moving forward, ACV will continue to promote training partnerships and update specialized knowledge to build a "proactive safety culture." This strategy aims to meet the increasing demands of airport operations amidst the rapid growth of Vietnam's aviation industry.
