On December 24, 2025, Dien Bien Airport officially welcomed the first direct flight operated by Vietnam Airlines on the Ho Chi Minh City – Dien Bien route. This event marks a significant milestone in expanding aviation connectivity between Dien Bien and the country's major economic centers.
The inaugural flight, operated on an Airbus A321 with flight number VN1160, departed from Tan Son Nhat International Airport at 09:35 and landed at Dien Bien Airport at 11:55. The flight transported nearly 100 passengers from Ho Chi Minh City to Dien Bien province in just over two hours, significantly reducing travel time compared to the previous requirement of connecting via Noi Bai International Airport.

The inaugural flight was conducted safely and seamlessly, strictly adhering to all requirements regarding security, aviation safety, operational safety, and service quality. Dien Bien Airport proactively coordinated with relevant agencies, units, and Vietnam Airlines regarding preparation and operational organization to ensure the flight proceeded according to schedule.
The launch of the direct Ho Chi Minh City – Dien Bien route contributes to shortening travel time and creating favorable conditions for residents, tourists, and businesses. Furthermore, it fosters the development of tourism, socio-economic growth, and trade exchange for Dien Bien province and the Northwest region.
In the upcoming period, Dien Bien Airport will continue to coordinate with airlines and relevant units to enhance service quality and gradually expand the flight network to meet the increasing travel demand of passengers.
